State Rep. Jerry Stern (R-Blair), in conjunction with Mrs. Virgie Werner and Christ United Methodist Church in Tyrone, is seeking information about World War II veterans living in northern Blair County who have not been previously recognized in order to honor them for their service to our country during a special event on Nov. 11.
“I encourage anyone who served in World War II or knows someone who served to contact my office," said Stern. “These extraordinary citizens deserve to be honored and recognized by the Commonwealth for their military service. I look forward to the opportunity to present the men and women in northern Blair County who served during World War II with a token of appreciation on behalf of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania."
Local WWII veterans are asked to call Stern’s Tipton office at (814) 684-6092 with the following information: name, home address, phone number, branch of service, rank and time of service. Veterans with Internet access can also submit their information at www.Jerry Stern.com. The deadline for submitting information is Nov. 5.
Stern said those who respond will be invited to attend a special event at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11, at Christ United Methodist Church in Tyrone. During the event veterans will be honored with a medal and a certificate of appreciation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
